The problem

PE and school sport is entering a transition period

Schools still need to evidence how PE and Sport Premium has been used, what difference it has made and how improvements will be sustained. At the same time, national funding and partnership support is changing, so September planning needs to be clearer than usual. Most PE leads and SLT are juggling curriculum, staffing, provider contracts and governor reporting at once, often with no clear moment set aside to check the whole picture before term starts.

Is our evidence ready for governors?
Are staff confident delivering PE?
Is the curriculum on track?
What should we prioritise first?
Is our clubs and competitions offer planned?
Could we show our impact tomorrow if asked?

This checklist brings those questions together so you can check the current picture in five minutes, not five meetings.

Why now

Why it matters before September

September decisions get made before schools break up for summer, and most of the evidence gathering happens under time pressure once the new term starts. Five minutes now, using this checklist with your PE lead, SLT or governors, gives you a head start and something concrete to work from.

About Apex

Practical, founder-led support

FAQ

Questions schools ask before downloading

Is this checklist really free?
Yes. No card details, no obligation. It is a genuine self-review tool for schools.
Do I need to buy anything to use it?
No. The checklist works on its own. The PE Premium & September PE Audit Toolkit, Review, Roadmap and Mentoring are separate, optional next steps if you want more support.
Who should complete it?
Most schools use it with the PE lead and a member of SLT together, though headteachers and governors can also use it on their own.
Is Apex a PE delivery company?
No. Apex reviews, strengthens and helps evidence PE and school sport provision. Apex does not deliver PE lessons, provide PPA cover or supply staff.
What if my score is low?
That is common, especially while funding and expectations are changing. A low score simply points to where to focus first. The checklist suggests a next step for every score range.
Can I share this with governors?
Yes. Several schools use it as a starting point for a governor update on PE and Sport Premium.
